Artist Statement
Richards is an autobiographical artist whose work explores the many facets of self-identity. Working both sculpturally and in oil painting, the materials used are a direct expression of the concept of the piece. Having always felt an overwhelming sense of differentness from others, Richards has an interest in sociology - the study of human behaviour, social groups and social change. Feeling so disjointed from society, masking her true self has been an automatic behaviour however, she feels that by using sociological research as a tool in her work she has greater connection with the observer. Through isolation of events, experiences and objects, Richards hopes to open a space for the observer to to bring their own projections, and generate conversation.
About
I am usually found in the company of my children, deep in nature or entangled in a mess of curious, creative things. I am passionate about being a mother, music and nature.
I love the solitude of my home, and although an introvert at heart, I believe my true purpose is to inspire.
